Atlas of Brutalist Architecture – PHAIDON
In October 2017 they contacted us from Phaidon.com editorial, because they wanted to incorporate Kuvasz home in a new project “High of brutalist architecture”. A great joy, mixed with the discomfort of not fully communicating the label they proposed for our work, and for Kuvasz house in particular. We knew it was an ambitious and very comprehensive editorial project, but we were not prepared to see the result. This week came the book. Seeing the book holistically, it led us to understand this categorization, which in most cases is quite distant from the paradigmatic brutalism of past eras. Today brutalism is a reference, a useful preexistence to nurture contemporary professional practice that does not pursue the same ends, but maintains the idea of sensitively affecting the recipient. See in context and understand. There is a common thread that gives coherence to this great compliant, and that magically as an auction in one of the most recent works of the South American context, Casa Kuvasz appears.
It can be absolutely anecdotal, but being there sharing a space with people we admire and who has taught us so much, is something very rewarding. The South Americans: From BAK, Mathias Klotz, Clorindo Testa, Miguel Angel Roca, Alejandro Aravena, Pezo – Von Ellrichshausen, Eladio Dieste, Javier Corvalan, Alfonso Reidy, Oscar Niemeyer, Lina Bo Bardi, Paulo Mendes da Rocha, Vilanova Artigas, Felipe Uribe and The Mazzanti Team among others. Great contemporaries such as Peter Zumthor, Alvaro Siza, Rafael Moneo, Coop Himmelb (l) au, David Chipperfield, Campo Baeza, Diller and Scofidio, Herzog & de Meuron, Jean Nouvel, SANAA, OMA, MVRDV, Steven Holl, Renzo Piano, Toyo Ito, Tadao Ando and Zaha Hadid Architects.
